About a year ago, the Holy Spirit began speaking to my heart about starting a small group to mentor younger ladies in the Word and by life experience. I told my thoughts to Annie, who had been hearing the same thing from the Lord. As we were praying and making sure, I shared my prayer with Joann and was blown away when she told me that God had also been speaking to her about this! That is how this group was formed!
The primary reason for this group is to use the passage from Titus 2 that says, "older women are to encourage the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored." We strongly believe that as older women, we have a responsibility to teach younger women from our experiences. After 31 years of marriage, I have learned many things (the hard way, unfortunately) that would possibly help make the journey a little easier for you.
We are to be an encouragement to you that says, "you can make it, it's going to get easier, watch out for that, this is how you can make it easier, etc". (you get the picture) ENCOURAGE!
As for the name, 26.2.... well, we took that from the scripture that is really the foundation of our Christian life and we believe the foundation for this group. Hebrews 12:1-2, "Therefore, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily entangles us and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us fixing our eyes on Jesus..." 26.2 miles is the distance of a marathon. We must run our Christian race like we are running a marathon, not a sprint. Steady and sure! I'll get into just what that means in the next blog. Anyway, we are very glad you are a part of this and we are confident that God is going to bless our time and do some extraordinary things as we listen, learn, seek, follow, and obey Him!
